Welcome Home

My husband and I were in Grand Cayman on vacation when COVID rules made us return home. He suggested we look at investing in a property since we loved our stay. When we couldn’t find one that aligned with our needs, he found 8 Gables Cottage on Google.

We had never been to any of the Turks & Caicos Islands. COVID was in full swing so we couldn’t view the property in person. Lucy Eaton, the seller’s realtor, led us on two full-feature zoom meeting visits which I recorded, edited and “visited” frequently.

We made an offer which was accepted but the property was in probate which meant our closing moved 5 times!

I scoured the internet for all information on North Caicos I could find – which seemed limited for someone keen for an arm chair visit. My tennis friend posted a picture of her and her mom on a beach in Turks and Caicos. I asked her if she knew anything about North Caicos in particular.

“My family has been coming to North Caicos for 35 years. We used to have our food dropped in by plane before there was a ferry.”

I asked if she knew the octagon house with the blue roof.

“I am looking at it right now”!

This made the world incredibly small. What a gift to have family friends on island!

We met Mac Campbell in person at the ferry for the first time. He showed us the house and has taken care of us ever since. He feels like a brother to me with the care and support he provides. He is a Belonger known to everyone.

Chris and I ran to the beach and were overwhelmed by the number of conch shells! It made Mac laugh. (We have become much more discerning in our shell collection since that first visit.) We sipped water from coconuts that were from our palm trees, tried restaurants and beaches. It was shocking to many that Fred took the chance and bought a property without ever seeing it in person and having never even visited the country!

We believe if everyone has a chance to see the ocean from the sands of Whitby Beach, the world would be a better place. We hope you visit and share in this special place.
